I read what I feel like or what grabs my interest. Comics are a small slice of that and superhero comics make up a small part of that slice. The superhero stuff I read will usually be a run by someone I like. Some books, like Ms Marvel, I read because my daughter reads them and it's something to talk about and bond

I'm pretty sure it was "Wrong!" in response to there being no hell.

There is a Malazan prequel series by Erikson as well. I think it's only one book in so far.

There might be if he only cut back a bit.

The Common Core books I've seen (Eureka Math) are not about finding your own way but instead about learning several specific ways to solve a problem. The challenge becomes memorizing each different method. It detracts from actually understanding the math because there is a whole framework of methods to be learned

I did great in high school because I could take tests very well and because the subject matter was easy but I found homework pointless and never learned how to study. I got my ass kicked when I went to college for engineering because I didn't have the discipline and it was the first time I had anything thrown at me

My kid went through TLA and then straight to Korra, starting around the end of second grade. Her mom was hooked on TLA but raised a few eyebrows at how intense Korra got at times. Watching both of them is best.

The ad made me think of what parents who lost a kid to an accident would feel like when watching the ad. Then it made me think that someone at Nationwide probably wrote those people off as not worth advertising to since they're kids are already dead. The message I got out of it was "Nationwide, we're cruel cynical

The Friends sets are good in that they are easy to make even for little ones. My daughter has more fun with the other themes, but Friends was what she started building on her own first. The others, which were usually larger sets, had lots of initial enthusiasm for building that waned once there was enough built to

There is a lot of navel gazing and the form of the novel is mainly vignettes that more or less speak to a common theme as opposed to continuing plot.  It isn't a particularly reader friendly structure, with many jumps in character and timeline.  Personally, I like the genre stuff better.  While the writing is

I didn't really get the radio focus either.  Why base your view on a style of music on the shallowest, most packaged presentation of it.  It seems this guy views everything through the lens of being part of pop music.

When my daughter was about a year old her favorite album was the Beastie Boys The In Sound From  Way Out.  Any time it came on she started bouncing along.  Not coincidentally, all the bouncing also led to many a diaper change shortly thereafter.

My very early musical tastes were pretty much based on what album covers I liked since my parents let me control the music selection once I figured out how to put records on the turntable. With my kid I tried to provide a wide variety of music early on, although hip-hop mostly disappeared once she began memorizing

The time needed for Arkham intimidated me into getting Elder Sign instead. There's also a tablet app version that is good for getting a feel for the game.

My kid watched it this morning, thought the episode was "silly".  If she was a few years older it might have made more of an emotional impact.

HBO adds HDCP encryption for Game of Thrones. It definitely fucks up the signal for some boxes. I don't have problems with any other channel or other HBO shows but GoT looks choppy and has framerate issues and glitches. The rips are better quality than what I can get legitimately.

My 5-year old loves the show. I've been serenaded with "daddy why did you eat my fries" literally hundreds of times.  Also "do you really love me, do you really care for me" and "I'm going to bury you in the ground" but not to the same extent. Watching AT definitely hasn't hurt her sense of humor.

"Reamde" had so many plot twists necessary to keep the story on its rails and went about it in the most ham-fisted manner possible, with the characters deliberating about possible choices and then picking the most idiotic one.  The action parts were good but the structure holding them together was an outright disaster.

My daughter is almost 5 and has been getting into the show as well. Some are still on the "too scary" side for her, although last week's was  fine.  She was confused by this one but generally got that the old Amy disappeared when young Amy got saved.
