Their Cover of Family Man
Pure awesomeness.
Why Didn"t Handlen Review This?
Obviously, Rabin's not qualified to review such great, great trash.
The scene where they test the blood in The Thing still causes me to jump every time. Especially with the squeaking sound. Possibly the best executed jump scare ever.
I used to hang out in local video stores gawking at the boxes too. One called The 5th Floor (which I've never seen to this day, I don't think it's even out on DVD) used to give me nightmares.
Black Christmas (1974)
Those phone calls are fucking unneverving.
Night of the Creeps
The 1986 horror/comedy classic Night of the Creeps (as great as the likeminded Re-Animator or Return of the Living Dead) came out for the first time ever on DVD this week. AVClub (specifically Zack, who I bet owns a dusty VHS copy of it) should review that shit.
The Sad Punk is on Tromp Le Monde.
I guess it's their most "mainstream" album, but I really dig Key Lime Pie.
Also,
Just about any Tom Waits album is well suited for a long trip. I recall listening to Mule Variations twice on an eight hour trip to North Carolina (which included a fight with my then girlfriend which caused her to exit the vehicle in a serious huff).
The Black Crowes
Preferably Amorica or Three Snakes and a Charm, but the first two are good in a pinch.
I've Had a Crush on Her Since E.T.
And it's okay cuz when E.T. came out I was six. So she was technically, at that time, an older woman.
I saw AIC open for Van Hagar in Philly and the crowd actually booed them off the stage.

Bill Haley's version of "Rock Around the Clock" charted four times, in 1955, 1956 (after an eight month break), 1968, and 1974.

Dirty Harry Films Not Named "Dirty Harry"
Strike Force- kinda boring
The Enforcer- okay
Sudden Impact- also pretty boring
The Dead Pool- Surprisingly awesome, especially the remote controlled car versus real car chase; also, Jim Carrey dies.
