I've seen Fiennes in many things. He has the unfortunate cross to bear in that his brother is supremely talented while he is merely talented and the sort of talented that works best when there's a firm hand directing it. I think that this is one of those cases where he has a friend in the director's chair who can help

I haven't heard, but I expect if it gets more than one (although I sorta hope it doesn't) it will expand out and we could get some of the other issues that have been left on the floor.

I think that they're plenty 'horse blinder', what she's wearing in the header is what she wears under the wings/bonnet, not the whole thing.

I think that you're right about the show, although there have been some references to places outside of Boston like DC and Florida.

Just look at all of the wives of kings and powerful men who were blamed for the lack of children or sons (even though it is of course men who make that decision).

Because even if you strip away the story, Atwood is still an amazing and beautiful writer. Just about every other sentence in it is so exquisite that it almost hurts.

I have not. Are they as bad as I am fearing?

There is, a little bit.

Plus no one knew just how high white supremacists would be riding when the show premiered.

I suspect that they played down the white supremacy aspects of Gilead, just because there's so much to pack in even with 10 episodes.

In that case you need to only look at Russia and China, two countries with horrendous human rights records and yet. One needs only look at Chechnya, which is totally following Putin, and the recent news about LGBT people.

It doesn't help that they both occupy roughly the same time period.

The snapshot view actually matches how the book goes. It's actually pretty faithful in that regard, even if the events have been moved around.

No, it's the whole country.

Episode 3

Why didn't more people resist the Nazis? Why didn't more people resist Stalin? Mao? Pol Pot?

Atwood has famously said that there is nothing in the book that hasn't already happened. It's just never happened all at once.

Well look at the massive erosion of human rights in Syria, it's not a simple matter of just intervening.

Since someone mentioned that I've had nightmares of doing the ceremony with Pence and his wife.

Very true, just look at sex scandals where the women get dragged through the mud and the men….
