I don't think the show needs to build up sympathy for these criminal enterprises. I think that's looking for the wrong storyline.
There has to be a reason they didn't show Quarles shoot. All we saw was Johnny on the ground, we heard a shot and saw Johnny's reaction, then saw Givens comes upon the cop with a recent bullet wound.
BWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM…
@whataworkout:disqus Fair point, very fair. You're right, we don't really have an idea of how/why he got to his position at the top. Even a few throwaway lines from other characters about how his family has always run it or something, and they've always managed to quash any potential uprisings. Maybe even from this…
My first reaction to that line was, "Wait, The Butterfly Effect? He looks nothing like Ashotn Kutcher…"
Wynn Duffy nails those little moments.
Wynn Duffy should stick around for awhile. As should Dickie.
It's been a pretty masterful turn these last few episodes with Quarles' character. They set him up so well as this giant, menacing figure with a brilliant scheme. And as events have unfolded, we clearly see he's in way over his head. Which makes him much more interesting, and less cartoony (which I know a lot of…
@whataworkout:disqus I think what drives Limehouse is preservation of his people. Noble's Holler was given to former slaves who had been freed, and they've managed to stay holed up there without any real issues from the outside for generations now. Why risk losing that when you're in the middle of a county with a…
I've listened to the first half so far and yeah…it's all pretty unlistenable, aside from some really solid guitar work at the very beginning of Aegis (quickly covered up by electro noise unfortunately) and Empty Vessels.
I don't quite understand the general dislike of Bedlam. Way less of the momentum-killing, two minute noise breaks that littered the first few albums, and no over-the-top song lengths just to make a long song.
This song is fucking terrible.
I would like more Dickie Bennett in this show again. He's excellent.
I actually really like that little piano riff, a lot. They've used it the last few episodes, as Quarles has started to come apart a little bit, and I think two things stick out about it to me: 1) It's such a stark contrast to the regular soundtrack, that it stands out (just like Quarles in Harlan); and 2) It adds a…
I love Anthony Bourdain.
That line had me rolling.
i'm a fan.
Doesn't she do this at the end of her verse in the video too?
I don't think anyone would call M.I.A. an intelligent, coherent individual. But that doesn't mean she can't make fun music.
