Kind of exactly. This show is really bad, but seems to be aware that it's trashy nonsense and plays up the absurd cliffhangers and over-the-top reveals. I still enjoy hate-watching it, but I usually have it on in the background.

Nearly 20 years later, Tom Courtenay is still amazing every time I hear it.

It was a little jarring that we didn't see any of the in-between stuff, but I was relieved that — assuming he was going to be caught again quickly — we didn't have to waste several scenes on the reaction to his escape, the chase, etc.
