That Toadies song really IS one of the best rock singles of the era. It's taken me a long time to come to terms with this, but it's an indisputable fact.

Not sure if you've been to many Euro dance clubs, but that sort of life really takes it out of you.

My god, Daft Punk look like dorky French dudes in their early 40s! Who could have imagined.

It's amazing to think that I lived through a time in history where people not only bought albums in huge numbers, but needlessly bought multiple copies of the SAME ALBUM just to try and help their favorite bands hit certain sales targets.

Very sad news. Awesome performer, hoping for the best. (Waits for reflexive smart-ass comment to arise, none are forthcoming.)

"Tiny Furniture," the full-length feature that launched Dunham's entire career, had a reported production budget of $25,000. Making it several grand cheaper than the Mametses' little three-minute music video for a tossed-off song.

PS — Accidentally posted this under an unrelated thread. I'm sorry — I'm a bad person.

This boggles my mind all the more because I know three girls who did something remarkably similar a few years ago. They formed a cute little amateur folk-pop group — which I swear to god, included a banjo — while all three were still at beginner level on their instruments. All three of them were (charming) idle rich

Kyuss on the whole is awesome enough for me to overlook it. But maaaan do those vocals scream "this is the early '90s."

AMAZING video too.

My experience has been entirely the opposite. Especially considering that they're essentially a metal band, and their best two albums feature a terrifying tweaked-out banshee screaming about hustling underage girls and shooting people, their female fanbase always seemed unusually large and present.

No Mario and Melvin Van Peebles? No "Sweet Sweetback"? Seriously? I'm actually shocked by that omission.

Indeed. I find Dunham's show insufferable, but I can completely feel for her here. And she's not even trying to get them to stop making the porn, she's just saying that she doesn't like the idea, and that it makes her uncomfortable. What the fuck is wrong with that?

Pantera, Sabbath, Sepultura, Kyuss, Helmet … I've always dug metal bands that you could dance to — like, actually dance to — and it all comes down to the innate rhythm thing. Metal bands who realize that guitars should serve the songs, rather than the other way around, are few and far between.

Excellent point about the ending. It's not that I didn't like it — in fact I liked it a lot — but considering how genuinely wrenching so much of what precedes it is, I definitely needed a little more of a moment before walking out and being immediately confronted with all the doubts and anxieties about my own

(***SPOILER ALERT***…assuming anyone here cares that deeply about the ending of a mediocre children's film): She does not decide to live with the leaf people,  however she does seem to keep her tiny leaf man boyfriend after returning to normal size. Which invites a whole host of follow-up questions.

Absolutely. The thing is, if you're a struggling new director/band/comic/etc who hasn't really broken through yet, Kickstarter can be an excellent way to get funding outside of the label/studio system, considering you don't have the relationships, the fanbase or the expertise to really go it alone.

Turdburgler was always my favorite.

This film came out on my 12th birthday, almost to the day. In lieu of a party, my parents paid for me and all my friends to go see it. In the century-long history of cinema, there has never been a better movie for a gang of 12-year-olds to go see in a theater together.
