If only to set up the fucken sequels. I realise it's a moot point now, but how was all the mad shit still to come supposed to fit into this aesthetic?

The books are fucking weird and that's what makes them great. This doesn't look weird at all, just sort of Ron Howard-y.

It's one of those 'unfortunate inevitability' films. The books are too good and popular for it not to happen in some form, but they're also completely unadaptable as a film expensive enough to do them justice. See also: His Dark Materials.

Oh the 'sequel' idea is genius. Makes sense in-universe and gives them leeway to change whatever they need to.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm not saying it's a great idea but RP1 is a decent enough execution of that idea.

In fairness, the character isn't just trying show what a super-l33t-uber-nerd he is in that section from that first guy's tweet. There's a very well motivated plot reason for him comprehensively getting into all that shit. It is still pandering but it's not just pandering. It makes sense in the world of the book.

Can play both drivers and babies!

Can't say I'm not disappointed. Is there any kind of linear and predictable quest through numbingly obvious pop culture touchstones I can undertake to try and win it back?

Hoo boy, definitely don't listen to Wheaton's audiobook rendition then.

I guess with Men's Health at least it's called "Men's Health". Like, it's in the title. If I wanted to be healthier, I might buy that shit to get some tips on how. It's less insidious than the Grazia thing of "101 to achieve some arbitrary thing you're only insecure about because we told you to be, over and over."

Whenever that thing comes up about 'men's magazines' demeaning women (which, yes, they do) I can't help but think "have you seen most women's magazines?" Literally 50% encouraging you to judge others, 50% encouraging you to judge yourself.

Between the promising early comedic work, the Spielberg connection and the hair, it really is like if Tom Hanks didn't have his head screwed on quite as well.

Wow, so not a drunken liaison between Fozzie Bear and Postman Pat?

This somehow feels more 90s than, like, Flatliners.

Like a bunch of times? You don't remember him on the Report quipping (in character), "Israel is for the Israelis, the Palestinians should go back to where they came from…"?

Huh?

On the left?

If a big name Hollywood director made an obvious puff-piece about one of them - who was currently doing specific things of that nature that everyone knows about - then came on his show to promote it? I'm guessing probably yes?

From the Lars Ulrich school of blaming career soft spots on today's youth, rather than admitting that you suck now.

"Am I so out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong."
