Yeah, I was also pretty baffled by that aspect of this article. 1993 was not exactly some distant era. This site has a tendency to get much too caught up with mythology as oppossed to reality sometimes.

Yeah he is basically the living embodiment of The colonel in a few good men, but without the charisma.

I think what makes this the worst for me is that tolerability index (used to at least) sort of acknowledge that it is stupid and petty, and ultimately it's just a single person bitching in a corner of the website. With this feature, they actually invite "real" artists on, and then engage in the type of conversation

Yeah this feature is basically what you would come up with if you were trying to do a satire of the av club, portraying it in the absolute worst light.

I think there has to be some sort of structural problem with how the writing is done on SNL to account for how bad it often is. There are too many talented people involved for the writing to be as horrible as it often is.

To me the problem is that, increasingly as the series has evolved, Gervai's mindset seems to be "I'm going to book a bunch of things that I consider to be basically freak shows and circus acts, and then when Karl gets uncomfortable I'm going to lambast him for being intolerant."

I think having any significant character be the strangler would only illustrate how far the show has fallen. Making a character we've spent so many years with a mass murderer - especially when there is no way that he/she was originally intended that way - is basically saying " yeah, we don't respect any of the work

At this point it would be sort of fitting if he walked in with about a minute to go in the final episode.

The Clinton scandal was sort of the comedy equivalent of a giant asteroid hitting the earth and shrouding the land in darkness for years. The joke was so big, so mainstream, so obvious that it just completely enveloped every late night show. For at least six months every hosts monologue consisted of the same 6-10

I'm glad we're past the stage in which we had articles desperately trying to spin Conan's ratings as beating Leno's. I think the av club may have skipped one or two of the stages of grief, but we reached acceptance somewhere along the way.

I don't want to but in here, but has anyone else heard about how doctors hate this mom from [ Your home town ] because she discovered one weird, simple rule to solve [ your problem ] ? OBEY.

I think it will be hard to ever top the ads for Bucky Larson where that screaming idiot kept popping up in front of the ad to prevent you from actually seeing any of it. Unfortunately the "too embarrassed to show you any of the movie" method of advertising proved to be even less effective than random twitter quotes.

Jiminy Glick has always totally confounded me. Especially during the years where Short seemed to basically only play Glick, I spent way too much mental time trying to figure that character out. He isn't far enough removed from a real idiot entertainment reporter to be a biting parody. He isn't quite bad enough to seem

The "growing up and all the music sounds different" cliche is sort of funny in that it's only really true from about the late 1800s - today. For the vast majority of people who lived over the years, the music when they died sounded virtually identical to the music of their youth.

Tolkien's get out of jail free card whenever he introduces someone who would seem to have an easier time getting rid of the ring is usually the same. basically, every powerful creature (much like the elves) is at least 50 percent douchebag, and refuses to help anyone except for very specific reasons. So:
