I honestly feel like the biggest failure of this show is that, while it

I feel like this explains much of the key difference between the British Office and the American Office - Ricky Gervais still looked like a jerk for most of that show, while Steve Carrell had this weird underlying humanity that made us love him and root for him even as he behaved like a complete buffoon.
