His work is strongly reminiscent of the seminal Yo Gabba Gabba source text, "Party In My Tummy."

1. There's already an antihipster coffee shop for people with jobs. It's called Starbucks, and there's one every 300 feet in NYC.
2. That "you're living your truth" line killed me. In a bad way, like when a drunk redneck urinates on a live wire. What is this, the inspirational facebook memes that my 22 year old

I never bought Ghost on Ghost, but the single Baby Center Stage is absolutely masterful. One of the most gorgeous songs in recent memory.

My college girlfriend wrote me the lyrics to that song in a note after we broke up. Of course we hooked up again before parting ways for good. Well played, college girlfriend.

There's a live version out there (probably several) that strip away all the production of the album version and leave you with something pretty amazing, heartfelt, and less schmaltzy. It gave me a different level of appreciation for the song.

Do yourself a favor, go watch all of F&G. It will be time well spent.

Great article. This was not just a good show; it was one of the best.

Never before has a piece of arts or culture so evocatively explained the legal doctrine of the rule of capture.

So is humor. Look it up.

The only flat note for me was the "armed hitchhiker with a heart of gold." Too trite, too cliche.

Yo AV Club, no room for Party At Ground Zero by Fishbone? That one seemed pretty obvious to me.

The way they kept using Ben Harper's "Burn One Down" every time Cary was on the screen, I was hoping we would light up a big fat J before rage quitting.

Remember that Simpsons episode where they did the tv parody "Knightboat," the crime solving boat? And there was conveniently always a canal, inlet, or fjord nearby?

Almost all of the humor in this episode was eye-rollingly bad.

btw if you ever want to hear something like a more warped, more grating version of Machine, listen to Balkan Falcon, which was a bside to Machine. I'm not sure it's even on youtube - that's how obscure and terrible the song is. It features Gordon repeating "rape all the women, kill all the children" over and over.

Fun fact - critics and fans were so perplexed by Hallowed Ground that it almost ended their career. I can't imagine what fans of, say, Blister in the Sun thought of an album that included both Black Girls and Jesus Walking on the Water.

It's worth listening to Hallowed Ground, their second album, in its entirety. In fact, play it right after listening to their debut. Then it'll make sense how Hallowed Ground almost killed their career. It's that much of a departure (and yet, totally in keeping with their overall career output and ethos).

Fully agreed - Blind Leading the Naked is their weakest album from their original run in large part because of the production. New Times works because of its sonic and lyrical experimentation. They were probably feeling emboldened by the explosion of alternative music in the early 90s, and their (rightful)
