More likely Paterson Joseph, his name was mentioned a whole bunch of times for the last couple of casting runs. imho he would be much better suited to the mercurial role than Idris Elba, who I assume remains an easy choice for Bond because the elements of Bond's character that aren't 'symbol of colonialist

I really don't understand why nobody's said John Hurt.

Shit, good point(s). You've trumped me in the 'early precursor to modern glut of gritty superhero films' stakes. *bows*

'Westeros' smacks of cigarettes, imho, more than of alcohol.

'Although it is sometimes overlooked, the first true superhero movie in the modern sense was 1998’s Blade.'

'Pedantry' is the name given to facts by people who hate being wrong.

'Jailbreak' would've been a much more exciting option, imho

Oh god, 'Auf Wiedersehen'. That and 'Stiff Competition' simply alternated and repeated until the 60 minute mark would still be an immensely satisfying Cheap Trick playlist.

Charles Logan from 24 shoulda run.

Failure's 'Another Space Song' is a criminally overlooked song. It's bad enough that the general public/culture overlooks Failure, but an AV Club list of songs sung from the perspective of orbiting astronauts… travesty.

Guardians of the Galaxy is one of a small number of films that I've seen multiple times at a cinema, and the only one that I can confidently say is improved by wearing silly glasses. The scene with Groot's unexplained light-emitting spores is gorgeous in 3D.

It's all kind of hit-and-miss, but even the comparatively weak episodes ('Be Right Back', imho) are brave and interesting experiments. The xmas special didn't really cohere as an episode, but the use of 'I wish it could be christmas everyday' in a kind of audio-visual Droste effect summed up the nightmarish experience

I assumed that by 'post-grunge' the author meant bands like Puddle of Mudd, Silverchair, Seether, and that ilk. Millennial bands that tried to fulfil the public's (and the industry's) desire for a new Cobain. That's who *I* was facetiously blaming Nirvana for, at least.

Plus unphotogenic. She's no Vollmann, sure, but at least he can keep his mouth shut for the camera.

"Kurt Cobain and Nirvana inspired grunge"? Tell that to the Melvins, Soundgarden, Green River, etc. Even Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam are contemporaries of Nirvana and probably weren't inspired by them at all.

Kind of like how Philip Roth wrote a novel *literally* called 'The Great American Novel' and, uh… yeah.

The Bitches Brew one in inspired. Well done, Colin

No, Lana, you are not Cat Power. Try again, or, preferably, don't.

Contrast with the really long, considered, and entertaining pieces from Steve Albini and Andy Falkous about their chosen Hatesongs. This is more like the 'guy from Mastodon with the face tattoo' Hatesong (or indeed *that* Ghostface interview) where you can clearly see the interviewer struggling to get anything

may have been semi-ironic there… although admittedly, he *is* known for genuinely being angry in everything
