Full Metal Alchemist and GT:SAC, great way to get started on anime. I think my introduction was Dragon Ball, which is really good too, if not very deep.

What we have here is a rare instance of meddling in our pop culture by a time traveler from the future.

I don't know if it's coincidence that StarWorld Asia is showing Glee right now, or they suddenly took it upon themselves to run a Glee marathon. Coz that's not really upsetting.

Right, he was saved from marrying Lea Michele, raising a family, and living life. Coz that's just going downhill.

Yes, the ruination of Mina's character and the promotion of Quatermain were especially hard to stomach. Considered as a standalone, LXG may not be that bad, but it's not particularly memorable either. I barely remember a thing about the movie. Such a killer conceit, and they can't create a movie that does it justice?

If there are any Stephen King fans still around, let me point you to something I recently discovered: "Rereading Stephen King" - http://www.guardian.co.uk/b…

I never used to hate on JD, but ye gods do I find him insufferable now. Although watching a run of episodes in close succession greatly amps up his douchiness. I think that, strangely, the AV Club's coverage has affected the way I see him and the show. I've always liked Scrubs but never taken it too seriously. It's

I'll stick up for @avclub-30016cd5b9045be8de99ad5f1cbfd9af:disqus too. As a kid, I loathed Tim Burton's take on Batman. I've rewatched the movies a couple of times, and still found them mostly terrible. The 2nd one is the better movie, if only coz it's crazier, and coz it's got Walken, but that's not saying much.

I actually enjoyed emo Peter Parker. Sure, it was stupid, but I'll take that over an overly serious Spider-Man movie.

I like Keaton, and his oddball charisma in the movie, but I still don't care for him as Bruce Wayne. I just don't like his Batman movie (even as a kid, I was disappointed). The only thing I like about it is the production design, and maybe Jack Nicholson as Jack Napier (not The Joker).

We're on the same page on The Avengers. I didn't think much of the climactic showdown, save for the Hulk's awesomeness. I find that the movie works best when we're just hanging out with the heroes, which plays to Whedon's strengths. He did some good work with Loki, as well (and kudos should also go to Tom Hiddleston,

I watched Blood Simple and Barton Fink. I'm in the early stages of a period I'm devoting to watching the Coen Brothers films. The ones that I have, anyway. Blood Simple is… well, it's all in the title, isn't it? Barton Fink is fantastic. Hilarious, clever, wonderfully insane. John Goodman is magnificent.

For short stories, The Beast that Shouted Love at the Heart of the World by Harlan Ellison. I've also been reading Borges, but I think I read Borges every year.

I love Hot Fuzz. And a single filmmaking technique, used over and over, does not a superbly funny film make. I would agree with that. But I think there's a bit more going on in Hot Fuzz than you suggest. It has a deeply absurdist streak, for one. It's also a sweet yet cutting satire of… well, many things, including

American Dome
Breaking Dome
2 Dome Girls
Dome Dynasty
Dome Improvement
Doming with the Stars
Six Feet Under the Dome
Whose Dome Is It Anyway?

Yes. His short stories are truly great. Personally, I find Skeleton Crew especially terror-inducing. It's the collection that includes The Jaunt, The Raft, and The Mist.

On a relevant note, I was just reading a thread on AskReddit (I know, I know, but c'mon, we're discussing reality tv here) that gets into what specific things get faked on particular reality shows. This thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/Ask…

Cary Elwes's career trajectory. That's depressing.

It's not an uncommon name for Germans and Austrians (and Swiss, maybe?), and I knew a highly attractive Austrian girl with that name.

I'm in the middle of reading A Clash of Kings and really enjoying it. That's fortunate, as I'm not exactly a fantasy fan and A Game of Thrones didn't wow me. I can see myself burning through the entire series in no time, now.
