I recently watched about 20 episodes that people recommended as the "best of" … and I'd have to say that everything that's wasn't named either "The Caretaker" or "Robert Picardo" was just unrelenting mediocre.

Yeah, Nutella is basically made of evil. Its delicious taste masks terrible sadness.

Holy shit, that looks amazing. I'm now going to try to think about that instead of Grave of the Fireflies, because I really don't want to start crying at work. Yay!

Grave of the Fireflies contains the most unspeakably devastating arc I've ever seen. It's effective and earned and worth seeing. It really hammers home some points about the Japanese experience during WWII that we don't hear a lot about in the US.
Just - and I'm dead serious - don't watch it if you have young children.

So, it's pretty certain that that whole thing is a retcon, right? It's not introduced until the fifth season, which is pretty late for a big character reveal like that. I've been trying to figure out when they decided to do the retcon. The first real foreshadowing I can find is in season 3, when they

and also the hippos are aliens

"sitting around in a submarine playing Battleship against each other all night"

More colloquially known as "crawling up its own ass."

Apple fans, like hipsters and gay republicans, can often be heard complaining about how much they hate people like themselves. Discuss.

"Dismal fiscal situation exacerbated to the point where no plausible growth scenario will restore it in four years, eight years, probably your lifetime, maybe ever."

I got "Heros don't spike the football," which was a republican attack ad explaining how Obama killed Osama bin Laden. … Republicans no longer understand how attack ads work.

I tuned in for a couple of episodes of Firefly. The first one has a bunch of characters I've never met doing random stuff, then the next one has all the characters meeting for the first time, as if the previous episode hadn't happened yet. That makes no sense.

OK, that made me laugh. Here, have an internet.

You nailed it, @avclub-52ed1f89cb6f846e8efba0e4eacf9c27:disqus . They wanted batman, but what they have is a nerd in red spandex.

In fact, homophobes think about gay stuff EXACTLY as much as gay men. Proof is left as an exercise for the reader.

@avclub-f0282b5ff85e7c9c66200d780bd7e72e:disqus , Romney is exactly as nuts as the most crazy person in the room with him. That actually worries me more than Santorum, whose craziness is pretty easy to predict - it's set off by any topic related to his repressed sexuality.
