I always enjoy when a show knows how and when to throw in a non sequitur to get a laugh and this one has been really good at it so far.

I actually liked the courtroom sketch the best. I thought Eli seemed more relaxed in that than anything else, and though it was long I didn't think it dragged at all.
You're right, better than anything else on NBC any day not called The Voice.
Ratings have certainly declined but reruns of The Big Bang Theory beat almost everything else on television, even new episodes of other CBS shows, so I wouldn't really point to that.
I don't know, I think their stories sound pretty similar about the working conditions. I mean Annie Potts just kind of says it was "interesting" but Kathleen Turner pretty much describes why it would be "interesting" with the details. I think the only difference is Kathleen Turner was much more pleased with the final…
Somehow I haven't seen Body Heat as an adult so I can appreciate it for more than just what my teenage self did when it was on cable. I really need to buy it.
I always found myself more attracted to frigid Annie Potts in Crimes of Passion than to Kathleen Turner because she was just so cute. Just saw it again recently, and it's true, it feels like two movies smashed together. I'm not sure that's a bad thing, and it is a Russell movie, so it probably was partially…
I have a place in my heart for a good chunk of Hammer movies despite their shortcomings. Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, attractive women in corsets. What's not to love?
This thread reminds me of that time I accidentally stumbled onto WWTDD. This is AVClub right?
I actually liked the dinner scene. First of all, I thought it was consistent with the little light touches the show has thrown in from time to time and it made me chuckle. Second, it reintroduced Monroe to Juliet and despite the fact that she didn't call them on it right there, by her stream of follow-up questions and…
Interesting read. Thanks for the link.
Ah, didn't catch it, but now it actually makes sense. Thanks.
I thought it was hilarious and actually very sweet at the reveal of Jack’s motivations for setting up the date.
This shows drop in critical regard, as well as the ratings (even if it is still NBC's highest rated non-reality show), is undeniable. Yet, I still look forward to it. I watched the entire NBC Thursday sitcom block for the first time in some time. I've just come back to 30 Rock the past few months after drifting from…
I had just watched The Hand, and those impressions were hilarious, because it was so accurate about how his character treats everybody in that movie. That and Deadly Friend are probably my favorite episodes of the show.
It doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as it appears to bother a lot of people, but I will say when their guests are calmer and more laid-back, they seem to follow the lead. Still, I've found that it still depends on what movie they're talking about. The guests were calm, and they followed, with Sucker Punch and…
I can totally understand that. I was just disagreeing with the notion that the actual situation itself is something so unbelievable to accept that the audience would root for given that the audience basically already rooted for characters who did nearly the same thing.
Maybe, I think what I'm getting at though is I don't agree with the notion that them expecting you to root for characters who may have done bad things should be viewed as unrealistic because they were getting people to root and sympathize with characters who did bad things many times in the past. I simply don't agree…
It wasn't a nice thing to do, but I don't think it was out of character for the show at all. Most of the characters on the show aren't actually likeable at all and never have been. They became likeable through familiarity, but really, how many are likeable? Dwight is a psychopath. Angela is a thoroughly unpleasant…
Speaking of which, is that ever coming out on DVD/Blu-ray? In addition to wanting to revisit the cheesy fun, I'd feel like I'd appreciate all the cameos I didn't really get anything out of as a kid.
