I'm bummed about Steven Hyden too. Former avclub guy whose been great at Grantland. Why has 2015 been the year of screwing over former avclub writers (the Dissolve, Grantland)?
B.D. Wong is amazing. He uses his initials because his first role was gender-ambiguous and he didn't want the audience to know whether he was a male or female (!!). He's a prominent Asian actor. He's also gay. Ergo, his road cannot have been easy in Hollywood. Yet he's a brilliant character actor who has been in…
Ha, all true.
I like the flashbacks in theory. Current: Oliver's journey to become a hero. Flashback: Oliver's journey to becoming a closed-off sociopath/villain. It's a great idea for a series and has all kinds of themes with a capital t. But even these new tolerable flashbacks seem like a waste of valuable air time. The Arrow…
No I totally agree Darke. I think Felicity did make herself into the female lead, I just think that LL/BC remains the contractual co-lead with Amell. My conspiracy-prone brain wonders what the actress, Emily Bett Rickards, must think of all this. She has the screentime of a co-lead, Berlanti has basically trademarked…
Gotcha. Thanks.
Agreed. Dig's proud-face at Oliver and Thea/Oliver talking about growing up is everything. Thea's winning me over this season.
I know he takes a lot of flack for his earlier days but the contrast of the stoic dark vigilante against the twinkle in his eye hero (which he has now! how!?!) is everything I ever wanted in hero adaptations/actors.
Yeah now that Dig's in the field (yay) and the show is back to being more light-hearted, I'd be all for watching that. Especially Dig trying to teach them (or being frustrated by their lack of knowledge on) ops/military strategy while they just barrel forward towards the bad guys.
If Lance is the one to die the show will have gone from 4 male cores (Oliver, Diggle, Roy, Lance) and 3 female cores (Laurel, Felicity, Thea) to 2 males and 3 females. Interesting dynamic shift.
I don't think Felicity's a lead. Felicity may have a ton of screen time but Cassidy's name still comes up second in the credits and the show goes out of its way to build the LL/BC character/protect it . . .
Wait, she's listed as Lady Cop when even in the show they gave her a name (Liza Warner)?
Now just imagine what will happen when they clear all the bs that comes with setting up other shows . . .
In terms of branding though — why would you want to call your town 'Star City'?
Stephanie (Caity Lotz's character on Mad Men) was fantastic. "Someone has to go to class. . ."
Because we were living … living … separate lives?
Sure, take his side . . .
