Well, he did shoot simultaneously on DV and 35 mm because he was supposedly unaware of which one was better. Plus the green screen shots ain't cheap. Plus he rented billboards in the heart of Hollywood. AND, I would bet he paid the theaters to show it. I don't see how else an obviously terrible self-financed film…
