You know what absolutely blows my mind? There are apparently some native speakers of English for whom "horse" and "hoarse" aren't homophones. I'm not sure I've ever met such a person, but apparently some exist — in the UK maybe in parts of Norfolk IIRC, and in the US in some pockets of New England.
