Indeed; saw them several times in Gainesville. Most memorable for me was in our Ratt (the Orange and BREW, get it? Groan.) Anyway, they put on a great show, but the reason I remember it is because during the entire show, a confused, Eastern European-looking 50-something guy in a wrinkled Blues Brothers-esque suit

I think it had the largest CD booklet of all time. Seriously, it must have been like 40 pages.

Here's the thing: The alternative that broke alternative wasn't alternative. Because grunge borrowed so liberally from '70s metal, it almost instantly went to the lowest, broadest  denominator in Pearl Jam. Kids may not have known it, but the new underground was Bad Company. And lo and behold, we had Creed and Stain'd

Hoobastank ftw, bitches.

Yeah, that's pretty much me as well. I'm sure if I were older or had some rock-saavy older sibling to tell me how much Boston sucked I might have second-guessed them, but all I know is I heard "More Than a Feeling" and my tweener head exploded—it just sounded so goddamn great. It was the coolest guitar sound I'd ever

That's fair.

That's fair.

Unfortunately, that's not the joke we were looking for.

Bingo, this. It sounds like a Boston album in that the effects, etc. are very similar, but at the same time it sounds very little like a Boston album in that it's largely low-energy, hookless, and morose. There's also a lot of half-finished, crappy-sounding tracks at the end, which must have driven Scholz nuts.

Cher and Greg Allman. Wait, did they break up?

Fridays is in the odd position of being a show where the music should be the only thing NOT cut. The show was by-and-large awful, but in terms of music, they hit it out out of the park almost every week. In terms of artists and performances, I think it may be the best post-boomer show in TV history.
