It's not meant entirely as such (though I do think that a really fun film could have been made with such an approach); I'm just venting at what is a relatively unimaginative utilization of Abrams's whole reset. It could have opened up a deeper exploration of some interesting themes; instead we get our first post-9/11

As fun as it was, I thought the film squandered Abrams's original premise. After all, not only had he reset the entire Star Trek universe, he left it with an old and incredibly knowledgeable Vulcan who could provide spoilers for the next CENTURY. To me this is an awesome premise squandered; you could have started this
