So, for you, consistent characterization would be Walt always being meek and mild or always blowing up at people? You don't believe a character whose always been perceived as meek and mild might have a lot of pent-up frustration and anger to vent out?
Not exactly bait-and-switch; watching it at the time I had no idea what those prologues were leading up to/referencing. Bait-and-switch implies a certain outcome which there wasn't.
