Martin confirmed at a Con recently 3 new characters appearing in season 4: Mace Tyrell, The Magnar of Thenn (the first one I assume), and, well, you know who the other one is.  A very droll fellow, right up until a mountain falls on him.  Anyway, this does suggest where season 4 will be going, partially.

OK, one last thing: did anyone else watch the preview for next week's episode?  I know we all think it comes in episode 9, but…anyone think there's a chance the red wedding is next week?  Either way, that preview was incredibly intense, especially the look on Tyrion's face at the end there.
