Rourke won most of the awards
But he didn't get an Oscar - they gave that one to Sean Penn, I think.

I personally felt that Luther was 30% towards being a bearable show, and 80% ridiculous (with 10% of that crossover being a good thing), but whatever a reviewer thought of it either way it'd make for interesting write ups and debates.

I think I sort of meant baffling as in *how* sloppy and off the mark it is. Given that he's so very talented, and clearly loves musicals, I find School Daze a bit of a shocking failure. I didn't like anything about it. I hope he gives musicals another go some time (and Scorsese, too).

Spike Lee
Everything that was said about Woody Allen up there also applies to Spike Lee. Luckily, he displayed that trend right from the beginning, making a strong start with She's Gotta Have It then crashing down with the sloppy and baffling School Daze, then going into outer space with Do The Right Thing.

Trailers
If a trailer for a film I really want to see comes on in the cinema, I tend to look down and think about something else to block out the sound. Sometimes I glance up towards the end, and that often ruins a big moment in the film. The end of the trailer for Four Lions showed one of the biggest surprise

Practically every multiplex screening I've been to in the last few years (say, 80-90% of them) has been at least half empty. They're so thinly-spread, if there's any sort of atmosphere I feel like it's quite a special occasion. Might just be a British thing.

This is nice
That's a lot of people buying the album, right? I wonder if they're all listening to it all the way through.

Looks like there're plenty of them on there. I must have been spelling 'Fry' wrong or something.

Cocktail songs
I've looked everywhere for a video of one of the end credit 'cocktail' songs from Fry and Laurie, but can't find any. If anyone could dig one up I'd be delighted - Laurie does the best mouth trumpet in the world.

I only saw the last episode of Time Trumpet myself, but enjoyed it a lot more than I'd expected. It's one that I've never got round to buying in case it's easily dated - it might still be funny enough (I'd generally trust these lot, after all), but there could be a reliance on trends and events (as well as

Iannucci
It's interesting how closely this has taken them to the trajectory of Armando Iannucci and Chris Morris's The Day Today/Brass Eye branch of stuff, since this is such a similar idea to Iannucci's lesser-remembered Time Trumpet from a few years ago. Of course, that only looked a few years into the future

I chimed in a few weeks ago with confusion over how excited Mr Show makes people since I'd watched the openers of Seasons 1, 2 & 3 and not enjoyed them, and I'd wondered like others have if I was approaching the show in an ill-advised fashion or if it could still eventually click. Suggestions that it probably

Not as bleak as you'd think
Hopefully not to spoil anything, but I found the film to be a quite a bit more, I dunno, 'positive' than I expected, if you can call a film about people living with what happened in Happiness positive. Let's say, "more unbleak" than you'd expect. Not so much hopeful, but not exactly

I was especially disappointed with Shutter Island since, not only was the twist revealed by a man sitting down and explained the plot for 5 or 10 minutes, but it was the most obvious option for a twist in the first place.
