Best Performances - No particular order

Agreed, I thought it was trying so hard to be unconventional that it didn't really make much of a movie in the process.

Solid list. Only omissions I see are films like The Edge of Seventeen, The Nice Guys, and Sing Street, all of which were very fun. Wasn't expecting to see them high on anyone's list, though.

Saw it a second time and now I don't get to be a contrarian because it completely won me over this time. Strengths were magnified and weaknesses felt less prominent, and the musical sequences were as gorgeous as ever. It's a testament to how great those sequences are that I found the opening to be the weakest of the

Unfortunately not, Vince opened.

Once you fall into the depths of hell it's hard to get out

I despise Now You See Me 2. I also despise Now You See Me. There are two of these movies somehow. Idiocy and incompetent movie making blended into a soul-sucking, disgustingly insufferable smug-fest filled with actors who should know better. People who tell me "oh, it's just good fun! Turn off your brain and enjoy

Another person who's past the point of needing recognition but still continues to deliver: Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Veep. "Mother" was my favorite episode of television this year, and she was amazing in it.

Best Ensemble: Rectify. The series finale solidified that.

At the beginning of the series, Abigail Spencer and Aden Young were the standouts for me. Now…holy shit, this entire cast deserves an ensemble award of some kind followed by individual awards for each person. It's incredible what they've done here.

Yup yup yup on the Daniel-Kerwin friendship. What I love about the flashback and the way this show operates in general is that it's perfectly content to spend time on a moment like that: two people just sharing a laugh. Sure, it nails the "Because I know you" moments, but it also recognizes the power of simple

Two years ago, Rectify aired what I consider to be one of the most beautiful scenes ever created on screen: Daniel and Kerwin in the pasture, talking to each other while the former remained in a coma in real life. It was beautiful in its simplicity and transcendent in its emotion, and it was a stunningly gorgeous

"Brrap Brapp Pew Pew", "That's Too Much, Man!", "It's You", etc. are all acceptable answers. What a great season.

Really hastily put together episode and performance lists, likely to change. For the most part, tried to stick to a "one per show" rule.

Pouring one more out for Person of Interest. What an amazing show.

I'm happy too—he was fantastic—I just think Shannon was the best part of that movie. They both should've been nominated anyway, especially over Simon Helberg.

-Pleasantly surprised about and happy for Keough, Steinfeld, and Sing Street, but I don't know why we're still pretending Deadpool, Hacksaw Ridge, and Florence Foster Jenkins are good movies.

At least Deadpool will be beaten by La La Land. It fucking somehow won an award last night. And The Nice Guys was actually nominated yesterday.

Radiohead: "Daydreaming"

I will go listen to that right now.
