Speaking of acting, what gorgeous, gorgeous work we got this week. A+ material. First off, you have one twin and his perfectly delivered "THERE'S A DISTINCTION" (aka the shitty version of "NO TOUCHING!") amidst his freak-out, and then later, THE SAME ACTOR—what a performance!—breaks down over Frenchie's body, sobbing

"Here’s what I can say I enjoyed about The Following this week: I’m sure happy that French lady died! I hate all of the new characters so, so, much, but I hated her the most, and now she’s gone."

When that lady went "When you came into my house, you made it about me!", Hardy's expression was all "Holy shit, that actually makes sense. What a revelation that was. Now back to my musings about horse feces."

Uh huh, but the niece lets Frenchie get away about 10 minutes later. Runs in the family; like idiot, like niece. Classic Hardy, with your threats of leg-shooting (you know you've made it when Ryan Hardy threatens to shoot you right in the LEG!) and whatnot.

Yeah, it's a really great show. It might be a little shaky at the beginning—I personally really liked it from the get go—but it's really come into its own as a well-written, funny, and surprisingly hard-hitting show (it's recently taken some darker turns, and it's even better for it). Also, the cast is just fantastic,

I love Shameless. It doesn't really get much recognition—which is stupid—but it's a really great show.

And possibly the best episode of Shameless as well, which is a show people should watch.

Love it. I'm happy to hear this, as I was seriously considering doing my own reviews in the WOT's or something. It's one of the greatest ever created, film and TV included, with beautiful imagery, top-notch acting and character development (impressive for such a large cast over only 10 episodes), and perfect battle

I'm glad you're enjoying them. FNL season 1 really is amazing.

"Having finally given up on Friday Night Lights halfway through the third season"

Might as well just pull on the Captain America suit next week.

We do have a choice, but what this show is conveying is the impact obsession can have on us, to the point where we're telling lies, where we might not feel like we have a choice anymore, where two fundamentally different people are finishing each others' sentences and putting up a facade and getting lost in the lies.

It's interesting how that theory plays out over and over again in real life in all the different times—that theme encompassed the whole episode and made the transitions a lot easier—and not just with Rust. It's playing out with Marty and his family, but Marty can't accept it and is feeding himself lies to get through

This episode was fantastic. I thought the scene where Rust and Marty closed in on Ledoux was just as—okay…very, very close*—intense and well-directed as last week's final sequence, and man, the juxtaposition of the stories they were telling the detectives and what was actually happening on screen was beautifully

OTHER STUFF

Friday Night Lights—"State" (Season 1, Episode 22)

Timothy Olyphant

Most people won't go back to the Friday WOT on Friday night or Saturday. These articles usually die down quick, so the next one up is the Sunday one.

I'm thinking I'll start Banshee threads in the Sunday WOT's following each episode. We really do need a place to talk about it, as it is definitely awesomely nutball.
