I feel like a lot of this show should be annoying but the acting and writing is so great that it just works somehow.

One critic said that the movie (especially the beginning) occasionally looked like the set of a SyFy original movie, which is sadly pretty accurate. There really wasn't as much care taken in this movie than LotR, although it's unfair to compare any fantasy movie to LotR, even one so closely related.
