*almost writes nerd rage post about how the comet "proves" it couldn't have been 2 years between book 1 and book 2, then realizes it says book 1 and book 3, dodges bullet, is relieved, makes personal note to read more carefully in the future*

@avclub-1f93278d656663bf70c9dd8a75af2259:disqus That's similar to how I look at it.  I also factor in the idea of GMMR and his unreliable narrators.

That's true.

Dude, you need to get over them making changes or you should probably stop watching because they're far past the point of no return.  Game of Thrones has diverged so far from A Song of Ice and Fire at this point that lamenting the changes is useless.  It's, essentially, its own thing now.

You know, that's interesting.  I hadn't really considered that Targaryen loyalists probably have a different name for it than Robert's Rebellion.  That's the only one I ever recalling hearing in the books, however, and I'm pretty sure it's always capitalized.

In the books, no one really cared that Renly and Ser Loras were gay.  Sure people poked fun at them for it, but assholes will always poke fun at whatever aspect of your sexuality is different from theirs, should they find out.

I think Stark seed is even stronger than Baratheon seed.

There is almost zero chance Jon Snow is dead or will stay dead.

Doesn't have HBO, is jealous.

Joffrey is a dick.  Homosexuality is accepted, but obviously Joffrey would think it's gross because he's a dick so he muses on having it banned on pain of death BECAUSE HE'S A DICK.

He doesn't ask them.  He says Howland Reed's your father, right?  He already knew, but he needed for them to know he knew.  Otherwise he might seem presumptuous or something.  I don't understand the social rules regarding that stuff.

If Jon was Robert's, why would Ned be so intent on keeping it a secret FROM ROBERT?

Ned won't tell anyone who Jon's real parent's are because it would get back to Robert, who would then insist on killing Lyanna's only child.  By the time Robert dies, it's too late for Ned to bother telling anyone.  No one in King

Oh man, I'm totally feelin' you.  You're smarter than the rest of us, but you don't want to be showy about it 'cause that would be rude.  Everyone knows that the best way to accomplish that is to simply call the things people like "overrated" and BAM it's clear to everyone that you spend far more time critically

It's nice to see people admitting that sometimes casting an identical match is just not possible.  There are no actors as ugly as Book Tyrion and Book Brienne.  Those people don't become actors.

I'm going to be "that guy."

@avclub-0ae7484a9f3bbd2a21df420050c032ae:disqus I've missed it because it's a fucking stupid idea to hold on to and indicative of what is wrong with nerds arguing about genre fiction on the Internet (and yes, I'm including myself).

Also, Dany saw a blue rose in a wall of ice in the House of the Undying.  Rheagar gave Lyanna Stark a garland of blue roses when he crowned her Queen of Love and Beauty at the tourney at Harrenhal during the year of the false spring.

@avclub-0ae7484a9f3bbd2a21df420050c032ae:disqus Maybe it can be, but in this case, it's not.  A plot device is a tool to move the story forward or a challenge for the heroes to overcome.  It's only purpose is to advance the story.  Is the the ONLY purpose of the white walkers to advance the story?  No, of course not.

You can play semantics if you want.  They're one of the fundamental forces in the whole series so plot device or not, they shouldn't be trivialized as a distraction from the game of thrones.  As someone else pointed out, the game of thrones is the real distraction.

No, instead we're reading YOUR predictable nonsense.
