I am firmly committed to the position that West is only pretty good.  Pretty good lyricist, excellent producer, well above-average composer, pretty good live performer.  He has seven or eight excellent songs.

I agree that he seems more depressed this season, but there's always been an undercurrent of melancholy with him, because, as you say, if he can't hit a home run every day, he's not happy.

I think the main point is that some human problems are simply intractable; the Federation has created a utopia in many ways, and yet still there are some people who are institutionalized because they don't fit in.

Based just on how the words trip off the tongue, "squill" sounds only slightly more appetizing than gagh.

I agree that the character is well-conceived, but I found the performance just a little too mannered.
