Don is afraid to go home because he was feeling distant from his wife, wanted to spend some thoughtless time with his mistress and was unable to, and then had to face the fact that he's more emotionally invovled again with megan than he thought because of the miscarriage.

He was nice, in that his dad was a dsihonest drunken asshole, his stepmother was cold and distant and resented him, and uncle mac took him in and was honest with him, despite being a pimp.

trudy isn't a total fuck up like pete and even if she wanted an affair wouldn't do it with some retard in her neighborhood.

bobbie was sexually aggressive and pulled don into it to a certain extent.  Sylvia is an outlet for dumb ol dons dick.  Very different characters and situation.

Betty was sympathetic and even funny for one of the first times since season 1 for me and I really enjoyed it.  I hope it keep at that level in future episodes, but she's so far on the periphery of the show now it's hard not to wonder where and why, they are taking her story.

It's not out of character.  She has no money, no means to make money, has a son and a baby on the way, and is surviving.  I doubt very much this is the act of a woman who turned to prostitution for thrills.

It's important to take the pill at the same time because it regulates the flow of hormones and jarring it can cause you to have an egg in the hatch all ready to go.  Just like normally having sex it's not a one shot one kill deal but it's possible enough to have happened for it not to be a suspension of disbelief…

I really liked this episode.  Between this and this weeks game of thrones, I was very entertained.  The first two GoTs was pretty boring for me.

Hamm is also in like every other scene though too, and I'm not surprised his directing, even if it was any good, would suffer for it.

This is really all you reading into it and not really what's being told by the show.  You've taken a bunch of events and put a spin on them to fit your perception of the character that really hasn't been enforced by theme or comment.
