His joke is not a tacit approval of rape. I think part of the joke (if not the whole thing) was in fact THAT he was saying any rape joke could be funny. (Ostensibly funny because he knows it's a ridiculous thing to say.)

I've listened to comedy albums by Louis CK, Patton Oswalt and David Cross who aggressively confront hecklers, stop the problem and get big laughs int he process. Are those guys "bullies" or "idiots?"

It may be lazy but it sounds like the joke worked. I think once it becomes comedian vs. heckler the environment changes a little bit, as they're improvising.
