Hey, a fellow Prometheus fan! Welcome, kindred soul!
Hey, a fellow Prometheus fan! Welcome, kindred soul!
Actually, hiring 'fucking idiots' really was the only reason Weyland was able to get into a room with the Engineer alone. If he had hired competent scientists, they would have seen through his ruse sooner and probably mutinied before he could order David to do anything like spike Holloway's drink.
And the way you described that scene makes it sound like it was a travesty, but it was actually one of the best scenes, if not the best, in the film (And Michael Fassbender is a very attractive man, so the scenario you just described would probably actually be better than most movies?)
Actually, I don't have to make my mind up. But to each their own.
You seem to be missing the point I've been stating over and over, which is that they were chosen for the specific reason that they are not actually that stellar at their jobs. People who were actually top notch biologists, geologists, etc. would have potentially kept Weyland from carrying out his plan of making…
Michael Fassbender really is one of the best actors working in Hollywood today, there's no doubt about it. He's even better than Ian McKellen was as Magneto, and even in a film as shitty as Covenant, he still glues your eyes to the screen whenever he's talking.
I'll respond point by point. First off, the exploratory crew was chosen because they wouldn't ask questions (Janek, Fifield and Millburn), because they were loyal (Vickers, David), or in the case of Shaw and Holloway, because they were genuinely interested in finding the origin of mankind but obsessed to the point…
Actually it was worse than Prometheus and took a lot of complexity out of the robot. But to each their own.
Actually, just because I've got the time and wouldn't mind pressing the point, your criticism of Prometheus makes no sense to me, mostly because the 'dumbfucks' you mentioned were, for the most part, supposed to be dumbfucks. Peter Weyland didn't assemble a team of the best and brightest, he assembled a team of…
The only good part of your comments is that your avatar is the best of all the Scooby-Doo villains, so kudos for that much.
That's an understandable position, and I certainly agree that Alien is the superior movie in pretty much every respect. In terms of quality, it stands head and shoulders above not just its own sequels, but most science fiction movies.
I'm pretty sure the other millions of people on the internet who hate Prometheus could have handled that just fine, but thanks for stepping up to bat anyway.
Thank you for your opinion that adds literally nothing to my comment.
You're right, that really is the main reason why it works. They're not scientists, they know nothing about the bigger picture (the only member of the Nostromo who actually has a clue about grander designs is Ash, and even then only in the sense of following orders). I'd say that the movie's greatest strength is that…
No it does not. It absolutely does not. It took all the best parts of Prometheus (yes there were good parts to Prometheus, do not believe that hate) and threw them in a garbage disposal. The cinematic majesty, the sense of genuine mystery, the deep questions about existence, the optimism even. It all got tossed out in…
I was watching Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC last night (and apparently so have a lot of other people, their ratings are way up), and one of his guests made a pretty interesting point, namely that Mike Pence's entire alibi is that he "never knew anything about anything ever". That can't be tenable.
Rolling Stone had lost all credibility even before now, but this just settles it. Let me guess, they had Adele as #1 or something.
It's obviously far from his defining work, but since no one else has yet, I'd just like to point out that "You Know My Name" is the best James Bond movie theme song ever recorded out of all 24. Thanks for making the definitive soundtrack for 007, Chris. RIP
Um, care to elaborate?
If Mueller finds evidence that Trump committed a federal crime (most likely obstruction of justice by telling Comey to drop an investigation) and the GOP still refuses to impeach, they are handing control of Congress and the Senate to the Democrats gift-wrapped come 2018.
