Yeah, I think that was part of the joke.

I've met him multiple times (I was a bit of a super-fan as a teen), and he is a truly genuine guy.

Yeah, I dunno.  Lori is clearly (irrationally) upset about Shane too, but it seemed like the Carl thing is what put her over the edge.  Or maybe I'm just giving the show too much credit.

The sense I got was that she was more upset about Carl taking out Zombie Shane than anything else.

I burst out laughing when I saw that.
