Elizabeth Taylor in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is my #1 female performance. Holy fuck does she nail that role. It's hard to believe it's the same broad that was in National Velvet. If you haven't seen it do so pronto.

I hope Malick brings us the beautiful and petrifyingly boring movies we're used to seeing from him.

Over the years Joan o' Arc has become my favorite silent movie. It's sublime, mesmerizing, etc. I would take it in the ass for an opportunity to see a projected nitrate print.

Any other news pertaining to 40 year old virgins?

Doesn't the whole auteur thing *rely* on directors repeating themselves?

Another vote for Littleford. Her bit on the drive through pig sperm bank was golden, as was her interview with that fuck that was in the Partridge Family.

Thanks go out to TMOI, et al for providing yet another fine example of the value of a good liberal arts education.

"Convoluted story" covers every MGS game I've played. Reviews of the last one made it seem like the video game messiah had arrived but it was nothing but a snooze-fest. Unless you like watching movies. I might have enjoyed it if I liked watching movies, but when I want to watch a movie I don't play video games, I

Bullshit is a great show. Or, rather, is was a great show. Like all skeptical-angled programs (i.e. Skeptoid, et al) they run out of topics. Or, rather, topics that fit neatly into a 28 minute program. They provide a public service when exposing New Age and alternative medicine as the bullshit they are, but

@Oh, That Knife: Good call, except don't limit it to cover bands. Karaoke, not a good thing to begin with, is made unbearable by Sweet Caroline and Margaritaville. And any other song involving audience call-backs.

It is French and independent. An allusion to von Trier completes a self-absorbed douche trifecta.

I agree with you simon when you suggest the work is best when the viewer is focues and consciously engaged. However, you could say the same for anything ever created by anyone at any time. If your art requires an indulgent audience that bends over backwards in order to "get it", your art isn't very accessible and

I'm one of the morons that paid $599 at launch…and $199 for a 3GS…and $199 for *another* 3GS (wash with a clean, dry cloth not in the pocket of your pjs), so of course I'm one of the sheeple drooling over this one. But I can't get excited about anything that's on the most expensive and worst service carrier in the

I've only seen Chungking and In the Mood for Love, but I think it's safe to say Wong captures atmosphere better than just about anyone out there. I look forward to checking this one out.

Criterion is the shit
It's pretty cool Criterion is willing to pour resources into projects like this, but IMO it's hard to get excited about something as esoteric as experimental film (or interpretive dance or poetry slams) when there are so many amazing narrative movies that haven't seen the light of day.

M is a terrific movie. Criterion usually releases the best version you can get (although extras are a variable). Blu-ray offers the best video and audio possible (at home). Unfortunately, Criterion Blu-rays are usually quite expensive but I found it for $18.45 delivered with a B&N.com coupon. So yes, I'm only

Goddam those broads were sexy.

OP
I really love Oliver Platt—Funny Bones is where I first saw him and the wonderful The Imposters would have been a wreck with anyone but Tucci and Platt. Speaking of which, why wasn't he in Big Night? (What a great movie.) There was room for him.

SPR
Ahhhhhh, Saving Private Ryan is finally out on Blu-ray. With the exception of the maudlin bookends, this is one of the best war movies ever made. I look forward to watching and listening to this beast with great anticipation.

Well said Tristiac. I agree on all points. Up in the Air is one of those movies everyone should see, but only once.
