Ok, then what makes Silk niche but Spider-Gwen not? Or are they both niche and only one is successful for…some reason? If we're using the definition "a specialized but profitable corner of the market" then Spider-Gwen is niche but more-niche than Silk because it's more profitable. If instead you're using niche to

Yeah, it got a brief feature on places like CBR, but after that there was relative radio silence, especially compared to Spider-Gwen. Latour has a lot of clout in part because of Southern Bastards, so it's easy to sell an interview with him. Blaming a book without any publisher support for not doing well is really

"Marketing" and "advertising" are two different things. Thor being a woman was announced on The View and subsequently had thousands of thinkpieces written about it, some of which Marvel contributed to or paid for. Spider-Gwen has been similarly supported by Marvel's marketing and PR groups, where Silk has basically

Oen of us one of us one of us.

Secret confession: I was hoping that Nameless and Annihilator were actually tie-ins to Multiversity and it was all Morrison's scam to get three different publishers to actually give each other a crossover event, because only he could do it.

Yeah! If SG's Captian America is this fascinating (though I still argue it should have been a Bradley rather than rule 63 Sam), imagine what the rest of her world looks like. I think the fact that it was meant to be a one-shot really limited it's long-term ability to tell a story, because part of Peter's whole growth

Judging by the reactions of an almost-4 year old I know, it could be a hit. Especially if you narrate Tippy Toe's voice high and squeaky.

DINOSAURS WITH LASERS. GOING TO THE MOON. A SQUIRREL IN AN IRON MAN GAUNTLET. That book is everything to me.

Oh man, that Eeyore comment is spot-on. I hated girls like that when I WAS a girl like that.

Have you tried out Squirrel Girl? A lot of the arcs are pretty self contained, and most of the "fights" are resolved with having conversations instead of punching things. It moves along quickly and the tone is upbeat.

Cosplay is great. I love cosplay! I have a Squirrel Girl costume that I break out at the drop of a hat, and (maybe apocryphal) but rumor has it that Gwen's costume was designed at a bar at a con while discussing with cosplayers what they'd want to see. Cool!

That's what happens when you let Dan Slott write a "have sex or die" character in continuity with everyone else. Hard to figure out the other logistics while you're doing your best to avoid his BS.

Yyuuuuppppp. I said it in my reviews of their first #1s, but Spider-Gwen doesn't work for me at all…yet gets all the press. Silk is more nuanced and sweet, it's got a better handle on what being a young woman is actually like (as opposed to Peter Parker in a girl suit). It deserves so much more attention.

If that's the case, that's an even bigger issue…I've read a bunch of interviews from Churchland and Graham, as well as every issue of both series, and never heard that…and it's literally my job to know this stuff. Casual fans probably aren't going to go digging for more info, and it's pretty confusing to see two

Like many of Gillen's other books, it's intensely focused on a young woman of color to the extent that it ends up feeling exploitative and creepy. McKelvie has a really distinctive style, but that comes along with a bunch of same face syndrome and I personally find it gets dull to look at after a while. The idea is

You seem to be missing the core "don't put the white guys in the squad" part of my argument. Making Steve the Captain of the squad actually completely erases the purpose, which is to highlight under-represented characters that are woman and people of color like Sam, Rhodey, etc. Making the unequivocal leader of the

I'm relying more on the "Sam and Rhodey run around cleaning up their white boys' messes" trope for this particular dichotomy. That whole "Steve hates Tony" thing is also completely overplayed and it should get left behind pretty much immediately.

Kate Bishop as Gina.

This is sounding more and more like my "Rhodey and Sam as buddy cops with Fury as their Captain and Josiah is their LT" Brooklyn 99-style AU. Tony and Steve are obviously the fire fighters.

I was worried that the thickness was going to mean risking the binding coming undone, but I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality of the printing. It's a hefty book and it looks really good.
