I get it: people think the kid's Puerto Rican, even to the point of remembering it being stated in the film. But I'm telling you it's not (and I used to use it when I taught ESL years ago, so I've seen it plenty). I may be wrong, but even a dozen comments to the effect of "He's Puerto Rican — I remember it!" aren't

…which doesn't come close to constituting an "explicit reference" to his being Puerto Rican. Anyone else care to try?

Puerto Rican?
Hmmm…I've seen this movie many times over the years, and I can't recall any explicit reference to the defendant's race or nationality. It certainly fits certain stereotypes, given Begley's rant…but he also looks like he could be Italian. Am I forgetting something?

My bad — I read the piece again (skipping the offensive passage, and with the TV off) and it was a lot better than I thought.

Of course he's wrong about "Brown Eyed Girl" — and it really took me out of the piece to have to read that little rant (yes, the AV Club's style allows for a lot in the way of such remarks, but this smacked of a nasty message on the IMDb, or some such site). In general, I found this article well conceived but poorly

15?
There's barely a line of this movie I can't recite, and it seems to me the clocks were set "exactly TWENTY-FIVE minutes slow" — NOT 15.

There is an undeniable sheen and efficiency to Cuaron's film, and I've noticed that readers of the books tend to rank it highly, but as someone who's never read more than a chapter or two of the books, I enjoyed the second most. It takes its time, even to the point that it might be called lazy…but there are so many

Agreeed, but…
Whenever it comes on, I just close my eyes and think of the Zyrtec chick who has both indoor and outdoor allergies. The one with the eyes.

OK, I think I'm going to take a pass on this "SWAP.avi" (no, I haven't read the description). And if that makes me a pussy, well…put me on a pedestal and call me Pussalaia.

2 Girls 1 Cup
The only discussion I've ever followed was very recent, and concerned the article for the "2 Girls 1 Cup" video, which one Wikipedian thought should be deleted (a move that was ultimately quashed). I didn't participate, but if the vote had been at all close, I would have; if not for the article, I might

The Dirt Bike Kid was my little brother's favorite for about six months in the late 80's — but until today, I'd never heard/read it mentioned outside of my family. I guess I'm not crazy, after all.

According to Wikipedia, Miike's "Imprint" (mentioned above, I now see) was indeed held back by Showtime. Wouldn't be the first time someone got something wrong on Wikipedia, but I'm fairly certain the DVD features a note to that effect.

Miike
One thing's for sure — we won't be seeing any contributions from Takashi Miike, unless NBC suddenly gets taken over by that network in "Videodrome." As I recall, even Showtime refused to show his MoH entry (the title escapes me at the moment, but it's on DVD).
