I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this, and I'm afraid it will get lost this deep in the comments, but:

Sarah Silverman =/= millennial
b. 1970, firmly Gen-X

I think they sorely overestimated what she could accomplish in a chicken costume… bit of a waste of talent there

I paused the credits to see who was in the chicken costume. Yep. I did that.

They started the love scene, and I was uninterested. Then a tiny voice in my head: "This IS an HBO show…" immediately before the Nora-bum reveal. BLESS YOU HBOCEOoT! BLESS YOU!

Interesting that the guy who had Wayne take all his troubles away with his darshan-hug is the one nursing the massive drug habit. More evidence for the theory that Wayne is more charlatan than anything else…

"How people deal with unanswerable questions"

I knew it was the reverend's doing the moment I saw them. I was surprised that the piles of them at his place was even considered a revelation…

Agreed… but how is he still chief of police when it should be apparent to everyone that he is in no way suited to be? Is it really a hereditary position in rural NY?

Yayyy! After an entire episode of characters I like doing things that were just disappointing and depressing when they weren't self-destructive… Sarah Silverman next week! Cheered me right up.

I'm willing to watch the rest of the season, assuming that it's meant to be a one-off. I doubt I'd be interested in watching another season, especially if they end on a LOST-style cliffhanger…

thanks, that totally wasn't in the version I saw either

Wait… her name is Carrie Coon!?

I think someone needs a Waynehug

It's his darshan

?

Right? I was thinking hate crime at first too… but the ATF doesn't deal with hate crimes— the FBI does. In the Leftovers fictional universe, apparently the ATF has been tasked with dealing with cults, which seem to be multiplying in the post-whatever world.

It's the exact same thing she did last year with her "Masters of Sex" reviews, which is the reason I'm SO glad she's no longer writing them: every review is about how the show she's reviewing isn't the show she wants it to be, rather than actually looking at the show it is. I come here to read these reviews because

I haven't read every comment here, because I'm not a masochist… but isn't this entire flame-fest mooted by the point that it WASN'T reported to the feds as a hate crime? It was reported to the ATFEC (the "C" stands for "Cults"!) as a cult-related crime, NOT a hate crime! The words "hate crime" were never mentioned in
