Oh yeah, the combo of "My Lunch" and "My Tormented Mentor" was the highlight of that year, by a wide margin.

I agree that not all the changes are for the better, but I'm truly grateful that you bit the bullet in order to continue participating in the coverage, Dan. Thank you!

I don't get why the A.V. Club doesn't just hire @avclub-b1ef00d12df9bd49c8c9718c39df0771:disqus already.

I pretty much ignored Scrubs when it was new, but during my freshman year of college, the show was in Season 4, and my roommate got me watching the whole series from the pilot on. It quickly turned into my favorite show (maybe not all-time favorite, but I rank it alongside the likes of Cheers and Taxi, so that's where

I hate it when shows (and, sad though it makes me to say, Chuck is a major offender in this regard) feel like their characters aren't strong enough to let conflict develop organically among them. Instead we have this artificial tension created by the characters suddenly seeming to forget that they've known each other

Yeah, you guys are right. I completely forgot about the jury duty episode and the custody battle. Both were ridiculous.

In fact, Pete And Pete works for me because it’s not over-the-top—or, rather, because it is over the top but in this understated, “duh, of course both their names are Pete” way.

I dunno, the legal system in VM usually strikes me as at least plausible. And where there's been obvious abuse or something's not fair, it's usually attributed in-show to classism.

"Lampshade Hanging," or simply "Lampshading," is the writerly act of excusing a cliche or implausibility by making it conspicuous.

Yeah, that really threw me for a loop while watching season 2, because every time they threatened legal action against Logan, I kept yelling "What about Double Jeopardy!" at the TV screen. Had to look it up later to find that the case was thrown out before being taken to trial.

I agree with the assessment that each season is worse than the one before it. But Season 2 is only a little worse than Season 1, and absolutely deserving of any TV fan's time and attention. I'm glad to see these recaps back. Enjoy, Rowan; I don't think you'll be disappointed.

***SPOILERS***
I didn't mind that Beaver turned out to be the Big Bad of the season - in fact, they set up the motivation and execution really well. What I disliked was the timing of when he decided to out himself (if he spent all season lying low, why would he suddenly turn out to be dangerous at the exact moment that

Guffaw.

C'mon, man, you're not the Gay Police. Whether Dean Pelton is "a pansexual imp," a "very kinky gay guy," or whatever… Where do you get off saying he "doesn't count as gay?"

Dean Pelton is clearly not straight, so it's a reach to call this "the first community episode to feature gay students in the A-story." I mean, Pelton's not a student, but he's been featured in several prominent plots where his sexuality irrelevant (at least, it's used for joke fodder and character color more than

Holy crap! You're right!

I'm convinced that the entire episode was built around that one pun.

Hey, Space Godwin's law, dude.

Your opinion is wrong.
