Oh yeah, totally check out Badlands.  It has all of Malick's gorgeous style, but tied to a single narrative plot.

Tree of Life's middle section fits the idea my one creative writing professor had of how to best tell a story.  He would constantly reiterate that the best way to tell a story isn't to tell us everything that happened, but to give us short, specific, direct scenes that slowly piece together the story of this person's

This.  Marvel's current Captain America films succeed because they make it clear that the character doesn't fit into the world and values around him, and that becomes part of his character arc and struggle.

This.  He gets all this hate for… occasionally acting dumb in public and having an ego?  I'd much rather an artist with an ego than one who does it for the money and couldn't give a shit about the rest.

I just hit "like" on this comment and it jumped up 8 likes.  It's such a wonderful line in that it somehow makes perfect sense in the context of the episode.

@avclub-0d04659047f95a243e71c97e64ae4812:disqus - Exactly.  At no point does Tobias come off as even slightly self-aware, and if he does, he immediately shuts down that instinct, because of how afraid he is of the world around him.  That Cross pulls it off so well is incredible from a star of all those Squeakuels.
