Don't forget about the 100+ pages of the priest and his entire life that you have to start with before the main narrative even gets rolling! Glad I read this book, but not sure that 14 was the best age for me to grasp all the nuances.

I loved Hard Boiled Wonderland—it's the book that got me into Murakami in the first place. It's not as polished as some of his later works, but it is still a fantastic read and still makes me creeped out by subway tunnels. Wind Up Bird Chronicle is really his masterwork. I have 1Q84 but still haven't gotten around to…
What I loved about reading Don Quixote is that I felt I could put it down for months at a time and then start again right where I left off. I think the episodic nature of the book is fantastic, and it helps that everyone is hilarious. And I would totally watch a Don Quixote tv show.
Heart of Darkness was so good! I also really liked Lord Jim, which I had to read for a graduate class and was actually my first Conrad.
I liked Bartleby a lot more than Moby-Dick. I think the long passages about whale anatomy (that are often incorrect) just bugged me too much.
I bought The Corrections as an ebook but still haven't started reading it. There's always something I want to read more. When I told my mother I had just gotten the book, she scolded me because she has a copy somewhere she'd love to get rid of, because she apparently HATES Franzen. This just makes me curious to check…
I loved Anna Karenina. I was really surprised at how her narrative is really only half the book. While I understand what Tolstoy was trying to do, and that the Levin character is a Tolstoy stand-in, I felt the Levin parts were just annoying and weighed the book down. I was especially unsatisfied with the ending.…
Adore is seriously their best album, and I LOOOVE Siamese Dream. I remember getting into endless arguments about Adore when it came out, because everyone else I knew who was into Smashing Pumpkins hated it. For the first two years of college, it was the album I listened to practically every night, and it was one of…

Yay for Adore! I was a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan back in high school and Adore is still my favorite, even though I recall it getting pretty lukewarm reviews when it came out.

I read the book because of the miniseries (and yes, Richard Armitage is so unbelievably HAWT!), but I guess the book just wasn't written well enough for me to absolutely love it. I find that I sometimes fixate on sentences that don't flow smoothly enough or different phrases or word choices that get repetitive, and I…

He's my favorite author, but for some reason I keep picking up the book, reading the first chapter, and setting it down. I'm not sure if my block is that once I've read it, I'll have no more books of his to read, or if I'm worried about being disappointed in this one.

Just finished Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South, which I liked okay. I'm now reading the second book in the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons because Mr. Brewman has been trying to get me to read them for years and finally have the time now that I'm out of grad school. I just picked up Amy Stewart's Flower…

After reading The Road and Blood Meridian, I'm not sure I want to read McCarthy ever again. That said, I do have a copy of All the Pretty Horses, which is my dad's favorite book. I can only assume there will be lots of dead babies.

Availability: good luck, you're never going to see this movie.
