Even if you hated the film, calling it a tiny step up from Transformers is still unfair. Transformers is intentionally racist, misogynist and jingoistic. It not being good is one thing, but it isn't morally repugnant which is why Transformers gets so much hate in the first place.

I so rarely watch live tv any more that I've actually reached the point where I download British Freeview shows out of habit.

Because the series is copying the plot of the original rather than actually creating one more applicable to the setting.
