Screw You, We're From Texas
Oh man, Upworthy. I wish I could figure out a way to block every Facebook repost from Upworthy, Being Liberal, Americans Against the Tea Party, Teabonics, etc. I'm sure there are some annoying conservative pages like that but for whatever reason I never see them.
She's plain of face and unfortunate of body. I like the show, though.
Even better "The Emperor's New Clothes", which means that not only are they wrong, but they are lying about how they feel.
nitpick: if you plea bargain, you aren't actually convicted: he plead guilty or no contest
To each their own, of course. That singing style is like the female equivalent to "hunger dunger dang" to me, though.
Youtube has just informed me that she is, indeed, cute as a proverbial button, but her music is not so great, really.
Why is it every avclub thread ends up having a long discussion of rape?
Just watched this one the other day and loved it. Completely deserves its reputation and is a lot less dated than I might have expected. I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned more often as a spiritual forebear to Inglourious Basterds, as it has a lot of the same elements.
@fineoakstructure:disqus Grandpa circling in and out of the front door of the Maison in one uninterrupted motion is one of their best sight gags.
@avclub-95d952510e02ffba7fa228e4d43866cb:disqus You know I've never seen The Great Dictator or any of Chaplin's films after Modern Times. In fact, part of what started me on watching all of the Criterions on Hulu was looking through it and seeing how many holes in my cinema education I still had, the Chaplin talkies…
I could go either way. Modern Times is funnier (the factory setpiece is particularly brilliant), but imo it's Chaplin's heart that sets him apart, particularly in his full length films. For my money, Keaton's short films would have Chaplin beat I were basing my judgment on hilarity alone.
Yeah it's incredible. It had been many years since I had seen either film. Today is turning out to be rainy so I think I will dig into some of the Harold Lloyd Criterion movies. I've seen my share of Chaplin and Keaton but I've never seen an entire Harold Lloyd film.
As for Ali, it was the love story that won me over. It's so real and complicated and imperfect in so many ways, but in the end these two people so clearly make each other's lives better. It was the more political stuff that worried me in the beginning. "Dated" is the wrong word, as clearly the struggles of…
Watched Modern Times with my daughter. It was a hit and we ended up watching City Lights, which she actually liked better.
You know, the AVclub's comment section turned into CNN.com so gradually, I didn't even notice.
@avclub-9ff7c9eb9d37f434db778f59178012da:disqus I'm an attorney. Been solo for the last 2.5 years, but about to be part of a three man operation come the new year.
Thanks for saying that. I actually work for myself now and It's been a huge improvement in my life. Downside is I'm working today and tomorrow but I wouldn't change it for the world.
Yeah bowling alleys are scarcely hiring these days anyway.
This one hit really close to home for me. Not the first time I saw it, but years later, after my daughter was born when I was 23 and I had to leave my fun, carefree job at a record store and start working an office job I hated. More than anything it made me realize that I should stop feeling so damn sorry for…
