Indeed, but as I understood it, Mann's version of the story had way more to do with the previous film than with the source material.

Everytime I watch it, I can't believe how awesomely executed (and edited !) the promontory pursuit at the end is. If anything, Mann knows where to put his camera.
Now I need to watch it AND "The Duellist" back to back…! ^^

I enjoyed Jackson's "King Kong" (Serkis is always doing great in a motion capture suit, the performances were nice - not counting Jack Black's, maybe - and the music spot on)…..but I don't know, there seems to be an odd "charming" quality to the 1933 one that Jackson could not reproduce.
