It's a device they do use on occasion, but that's not really the sole basis of all the jokes on the show. Plus very few jokes on this show are built on solely referencing pop culture or being "random", which are the main complaints about Family Guy. It's more about the characters.

I rather agree. It's fine recognising chemistry when it's there, and using it to your advantage, in terms of scenes and episodic plots, but these things should progress slowly, especially in an ensemble comedy where romance isn't really the point. One of the best things about Andy and April on P&R is that it built

I'm readying pitchforks as I type.

I kind of understand that statement, from his point of view. The sad thing is, even the worst TV show in the world is a huge, co-ordinated effort by many talented people, most of whom probably have talent way beyond the shittiness that they end up putting out there. It's tough.

This is why I only talk books with relatives, never TV or films.

Not sure how this rates among other episodes of this show for me, but I did enjoy it. Each guest spot, maybe aside from Armisen, was awesome ("random foreign nationality" joke wears a bit thin for me rather fast, possibly due to my own random foreigness), and even though the plots were kind of messy, this one had

If you're being sarcastic, A++

Thanks! I'm going to have a one-day pity party, hope for the best and then fire off more applications tomorrow morning. The language idea is great, though I'm kind of ahead of you - in my current country of residence, language skills are important, and I list four in my resume - my native tongue, English and two other

I went to see Twenty Feet From Stardom, a documentary film about back up singers in the music industry, most of them female and African-American. Really superb, fun doc I can easily recommend - really makes you re-listen to your favourite songs to hear the background vocals and admire the talent of the people whose

I didn't feel like it amped up the violence that much; it featured some, but it didn't linger on it, apart from maybe one scene. The point that was driven home was the complete dehumanization of black people and dehumanization is where a lot of horrible things in the world begin.

Is that show ..at all worth catching up on? I love Mangan and Greg (Green Wing hangover, they were my favourites on that show .. hell, everybody from Green Wing was my favourite from Green Wing) but then I couldn't even sit through the pilot of Episodes.

My sympathies, dude. Friendships are not the same as relationships but they are about as intimate and sometimes more emotionally involved and long-term than a lot of relationships. Sometimes we rely more on friends than romantic partners. Thus, those break ups can hurt just as bad.

The Master is the last movie of his that I saw, and it's spell-binding in so many ways. Enjoy it.

Congrats on the new job. Warning: self-pity ahead. I just had my first job interview in aeons and it didn't go great and now I'm down in the dumps about it, but trying to feel better, because you never know how others perceive things.

I'm going to check out the Emma adaptation because you're right, Emma is an unlikable main character. Her most likable version has been Cher in Clueless, and that's only because she was SO clueless it was more forgivable, and you were kind of on her side, hoping she got a clue soon. Then she did, and you were happy

One of my favourite web series is a barely-watched gem called The Food (1st ep: https://www.youtube.com/wat… by comedian Randall Park. It's so messed up and brilliant and old by now, but it's made me laugh out loud like almost nothing else on the interwebs.

I really hope to see Lydia Bennet's actress in more things, she did such a great job.

It could also just be that the show was introducing the classic story to a predominantly young, female demographic who'd probably seen Bridget Jones but not any other adaptations of the story, and so were in love with it, especially the romance side of it. That's the feeling I got, by hanging out on tumblr in the

I don't know why this show lost me, but it did. I enjoyed it a ton, and then suddenly all that interest just fizzled out when they got to the Wickham/Lydia portion of the story. It wasn't that it was bad, I just found myself watching and not being all that engaged, so I never finished watching it.

For his future @midnight appearances, I deeply hope so.
