Watched the original King Kong on the weekend.  Holds up remarkably well, even if the characters are flat - the knowledge of how revolutionary the effects were helps keep the "wow" factor that would otherwise have been lost (I think the black and white helps a lot with that too).

I also purchased Moonrise Kingdom on

They were certainly the most extraneous (and also not played by famous people, though Martin Freeman has become more recognizable since then).

I saw Love Actually with my parents.  The scenes with the porn stand-ins were a bit awkward.

While Joss Whedon is certainly talented, he'd never produced anything remotely approaching the success level of The Avengers, on cinema or even on TV, so I don't think it was his involvement that built the initial buzz in any meaningful way (apart from among the comic book faithful).

They've been huge in comics for 80 years.  There have been TV shows from the 50s Superman show, in radio from earlier, a consistent presence in animated TV for as long as it's been around, and big movies inconsistently since the 70s.  The biggest challenge in film, apart from variable quality, was the special effects;

Superheroes have been consistently popular in other media going on about 80 years now.  I don't think there's any reason to believe it's going to stop being a major film genre any time soon, now that the technology exists to do them properly.

Also, I was amused by the advertisement for Taylor Swift's new album going on during this show (as well as the ad for her interview with Katie Couric), given the show's not exactly complimentary attitude toward her fanbase.

It’s hard to imagine any role played by Morgan Freeman that would make a comfortable fit for Tyler Perry

I didn't think it was a big deal in the first episode, but on the basis of this, Connie Britton's voice is going to be a problem here. She just doesn't sell the idea of Rayna's prowess, and when she and Deacon are dueting, she's noticeably inferior to Juliette's duet with him in the same episode, where the reverse is

Oookay then.  I'm curious about this.
