She had so many amazing scenes in this episode. And most of it was just watching the wave of emotions across her face as she reacted to people.

The show isn't saying it IS happening. I'm not even saying that it is happening. The show is presenting it like it COULD be happening. And the show without any question presents Virgil as abusive to John in the past. Even the NY Times sees it: http://nyti.ms/1PJKHWl

I don't understand why you're thinking of all the scenarios that the show hasn't given support of. The show flat out calls Virgil a pedophile. Everything about the Murphy family drama with him is left vague enough to play into it. There is nothing up to this point mentioned of John's mother, philandering, spousal

That seems like the wrong kind of twist. While it could be more complex, it seemed clear to me that Erika's reveal to Nora was really that it was a failed marriage. John is too much to live with. And you can make that assumption based on his violent behavior, and how she has to clean up his many messes. To then make

Patti saying that was the final confirmation that the show is giving the viewer enough plausibility for it to be true. I don't really believe he's being molested, but I do believe the show wants you to question Virgil and gives you reasonable doubt to make that happen.

The point being that this episode jerks everyone around and present even more questions instead of any answers. This could easily make plenty of people say "screw it" and walk away.

Are you forgetting that before being told about Ghost Patti that Nora just had basically the second most emotionally draining day of her life? She was getting hit in every direction and possibly crazy new boyfriend was a haystack of a last straw for her.

And Virgil very well could be changed and reformed, confirming his story of beating his demon. But we don't have proof of either one. The whole point is that it can go either way. The uncertainty is exactly what's supposed to be present at this point.

Thank you.

Which is all the more reason that Micheal's mother's warning about John finding out about the visits ending badly cannot be read any definitive way.

Except for the part where his loosening grip on reality is explicitly tied to him not coping with the departure. You know, the whole motel scene with Laurie.

That's cool. I'm fine with being the only one to read it as the show giving another potential reason to question trusting Virgil.

I'll clarify here too:

Like what @avclub-7531a93baf5da0105892793cdeaf8cf8:disqus said.

This has been a great season, but this episode stretched my ability to ignore that most of Kevin's immediate problems exist because he can't communicate like a normal human. And I can't credit that to his mental instability, at least not with how the show is playing that up. There were too many moments that escalated

Jill was angry right away. She wasn't looking for any key.

I just wrote this below, but that scene was played that Kevin just interrupted Micheal getting molested by his grandfather.

It was also heavily implied that Kevin just interrupted a molestation.

He very well may be dead, but that could be part of the plan. Virgil never explained exactly what he meant by Kevin needing a guide. Virgil may just have taken the final steps to be that guide on the other side.

And this video is such a perfect emulation of 90s era music video techniques. Especially the morphing from member to member closeups.
