This was apparently edited by Mr. Brainwash. I needed to hop off that ride before I hurled my cotton candy all over the pavement.

I actually wasn't aware they were making a TV show based on The Strain, but I'm super excited about it. I just finished the book and FX could actually do that the way it should be.

I had a similar experience watching Drive. I saw it a couple weeks after its release in a pretty small theater, and the only other people there was a row of teenagers. Their only vocal response during the movie was to giggle uncontrollably at any and all moments of violence. When the credits were scrolling one of them…

@avclub-501c54d131c3b93043a744af0c259c58:disqus I saw the US theatrical version. I'll be honest I actually had no idea there were different versions. I saw it because it was $5 and I was bored. It was tiresome and utterly incomprehensible. Do you know how I'd be able to get ahold of the non-Weinstein version in the…

If any movie ever deserved an F, it was Jaume Balaguero's Darkness. Although if I was a teacher and Darkness was a student's assignment I might mark it "incomplete." And then flunk the student.

Oh dear. The "ABC scene" was actually one of my favorite scenes in that movie. But then again I'm a sucker for both choreographed dance AND The Jackson Five. And Rosario Dawson's boobs.

Agreed. Ben Affleck, while making some highly questionable career moves for a number of years, never did anything in his personal life that would merit real scandal or public shame. And between Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo he's totally redeemed himself professionally, IMO.

I'd say there's a very high chance that someone on this thread owns Beat headphones and is just staying quiet.

Matt Damon fucking up in a real way would be a big bummer.

I mostly agree with you. I'm not squeamish about gore, but I hold violent movies to the same standards as I do others. Saturating a movie with exploitative gore is not a substitute for good writing or actual terror. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a good example of a movie that depends on exhibitionist violent thrills and…
