I think it's sort of funny that they now sell "NyQuil without the cold medicine" just as a sleep aid

Fifth Element is still the same movie - that's like saying that Beetlejuice and other classic Tim Burton movies are worse because of his more recent dreck.
I'll admit it's been 10+ years since I read it, so I've forgotten most of the specifics. Since I really liked Little Brother, my husband went and got me Doctorow's next book when it came out, which was sweet, but then I had to break it to him that me loving that one was sort of a fluke.
Cory Doctorow's stuff is a mixed bag for me. I thought Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom was an interesting premise, but felt the execution was so-so, and I really enjoyed Little Brother, but everything else fell closer to the "insufferable" mark. I didn't even make it through the sample chapters of the sequel to…
I think it's already on its way out again, but this spring there were a few waifish teenage celebs wearing baggy overalls, which was definitely a 90's thing. I think most of it was over as soon as it started, because people remembered how hard it is to make those looks flattering if you're anything other than a…
My friends in high school were huge TMBG fans, and I grew up in NJ, so we went in to Brooklyn to see them around Christmas time every year for 5 or 6 straight. I think they're the only band I've seen live more than once.
For a combined mother's day/birthday present I got my mom a pair of 3d printed shoes from Feetz - she's got similar issues and she says they're really comfy. You take pictures of your feet with a standard piece of printer paper for reference, and they create a 3d model and print you customized shoes.
My daughter has croc rain boots, which don't look like standard crocs at all - someone gave us a pair as hand me downs, and they worked so well for her that I got a new pair when she outgrew them. But, for normal walking shoes she likes something with a more flexible sole, as she's still new-ish to walking.
Right - I was going to say "or a hospital".
Whenever that happens, it's exciting because all the sudden I can find tons of stuff that I like in the stores, but it's mildly disconcerting. My sister is very fashionable, in that she's got a strong sense of her own style and is good at putting together interesting outfits, without being trendy - that's what I sort…
Flannel is relatively cool at the moment, as far as I know. Basically, all 90's fashions are back, albeit briefly in some cases.
Yeah, most of what I know about it I learned from a grad student there who was giving me a tour of Seattle hacker/maker spaces.
I really like the Japanese Tea gardens in Golden Gate Park - just go close to when they open, preferably on a weekday. It can get crowded otherwise.
I use whatbird.com sometimes, because it lets you search by a whole bunch of different criteria, so you can name what region you're in, what color its tail was, etc - whatever you got a good glimpse of, and narrow it down.
I'd definitely be in the "melted" category. No matter what people say about "it's a dry heat", I am just not made for those sorts of temperatures.
Fun fact: People who study crow linguistics (which is a real thing) have to wear masks if they're going to do something that'll upset the wild birds. Crows have surprisingly good facial recognition and communication skills. If you do something to identify yourself as an enemy of the flock, they can even pass that…
Maybe they ran out of late night shows? Are there just 5 of them?
Maybe this is a silly question, but why does the lead actor in a drama category have more people than the others? Shouldn't Lead Actress in a drama series have parity?
Back when Bush Jr got elected, one of my Bosnian friends who'd had to take political asylum in the US during Kosovo said that the increased feelings of animosity between the political parties and all the other crap that's come with it was feeling ominously familiar, and that we should be ready for things here to start…
I'm moving into a neighborhood with one pro-immigration sign and one Trump/Pence sign. I'm trying to decide what to put in my lawn, which I know is a sort of silly gesture, but it'll still make me feel better to place my support publicly behind the people that are being disenfranchised. I'm torn between the one that…
