Rowling seems like one of the more extreme/mainstream cases of a creator giving audiences what they want, not what they need (which I agree, leads to worse results overall).

Eh, I dunno - I think it's at least inconsistent, given that Rowling really was trying to give him a hero edit at the end. She tells us that he loved Lily, but his actions don't seem to be loving. Actions that ugly don't stem from love, but love's less pleasant cousins, like obsession. (at least, as far as I…
If he actually loved Lily, he'd look out for her son, not try to torture him. His character isn't realistically written, but if a real person behaved the way he did, then I'd say that wasn't love, but some mix of other, uglier emotions masquerading as love. (obsession, lust, etc)
I can imagine. :) My mom's operations research background resulted in me really freaking out my kindergarten teacher by using the phrase "critical path item".
What kind of garbage person constantly taunts and ostracizes a kid (an orphaned, kid, no less) because that kid's dad used to bully them? It's a disgusting abuse of power. Granted, a lot of the adult characters in the series are sketchily motivated and/or behave really illogically and unrealistically, so it's not an…
I still have a copy of that parrot episode somewhere - my dad obsessively recorded pretty much every show we watched.
I used to think my parents solved crimes using math - the Mathnet dragnet parody "mathematicians" had given me an overly exciting idea of what their work involved. Sooo disappointing when I realized that wasn't the case.
Or that Doctor Horrible sequel.
Ah, so it is - my mistake :)
That's what I was thinking - that's the fish sandwich's time to shine.
Exactly! Rejecting a sandwich with better fish because of a misapplication of sauce is silly - that's a problem much easier fixed than a bad protein.
This seems like maybe someone's finger was on the scale - if the fish is much better and the bun is decent (as in the Arby's and DQ cases), then you can take off some tartar sauce or spread it around yourself. If the fish is bland and cardboard-y then there's nothing to be done.
I always liked "Minstrel of the Dawn" - the bit about "look into his shining eyes/ and if you see a ghost don't be surprised" stuck with me.
Is Rocky Raccoon too upbeat to count? I know he says he'll recover, but the doctor doesn't sound hopeful.
I like ELP's contribution - not my favorite of theirs by far, but still a good song.
That movie terrified me as a kid, but not because of that - it was the notion that there could be some circumstance in which my parents would suddenly not recognize me anymore.
I agree - she's not up to date on recent history, but she's got her own opinions on things, firm boundaries that she'll defend if someone tries something they shouldn't, and she can kick ass well enough to easily enforce said boundaries.
Which is sort of ironic, given that the way it's filling in a minor plot hole from a previous movie and has no main characters in common with the other movies. By rights, Rogue One should feel pretty fan fiction-y, but I agree - it feels like Star Wars.
Like when you flush a toilet, except that Trump doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. He's a floater.
You know all those Black Lives Matter people are making money hands over fists, though - obviously only in it for the big payday! (joke)
