I was just about to suggest that one! Liar by Justine Larbalestier also sprang to mind. That one's more explicit about the fact that the narrator is not trustworthy.

Not many people would look to middle ages peasants for aspirational (or even acceptable) living conditions.

Sorry! I've just been casually thinking about ways to replace the shed in my backyard with some sort of home office situation, so I've been thinking the practicality aspects through a bit (as a diversion from actually, you know, working).

A trailer would be more weather-proof, and I think the cost of making your shed network livable would be higher than you might think.

I think it's only conceivably a good idea for a single person, but even then, don't you want a place with a shower, a toilet, a decent bed, and a real kitchen?

Maybe get really fancy, and have a shower and a toilet too - very la-di-da.

Are the parents planning on having sex ever again? Because, everyone living in one tiny room sort of seems to rule that out.

Given that his first wife was a fellow physicist who probably worked with him a great deal on the theory of relativity, it's hard to separate the two entirely. I'm interested to see whether this depiction shies away from the uglier parts of Einstein's history, or tries to gloss them over.

It's not an all time favorite or anything, but I thought Boondock Saints was a fun movie - I don't really get why it would be the lowest end of the spectrum possible. Aren't there much worse action movies to choose from? I hadn't realized it was so universally loathed here.

We watched the pilot for the Silicon Valley tv show, but at the time my husband was working at Google, and he said that he had to deal with those people every day, so no way was he going to watch a show about them at night. People who aren't familiar with the real thing think that show's a comedy, but it's really

I was putting together a proposal for a research effort dealing with internet of things security, and I had fun compiling a list of all the stupid "smart" devices that we could buy to pen-test - wifi enabled dog food dispensers, toasters, coffee makers, rifles, etc. There was actually a big news story a while back

She was born in the mid 80's - had no excuse for being that ignorant of such fundamental pop culture icons. Definitely not an age thing. I have my own lawn to chase kids off of :)

Awesome! My daughter's not old enough for Blues Brothers yet, but she loves the Muppets, so I'm doing something right :)

I love that movie, but whenever I see it I'm reminded of a conversation I had with a housemate in college where she failed to recognize a single artist's name from that movie. Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Ray Charles, etc all drew total blanks from her - I thought that was sort of mind-blowing, especially given that

Hack into Pentagon? Click "Yes"…

Why do you assume that white people wouldn't watch it? You're assuming that "not about white people" = "not of any interest to white people". Watching entertainment about people who aren't exactly like yourself is ok, to be encouraged even. It's good to be open to new perspectives.

The point is, sometimes it's not about you. White people have a tendency to always assume it is, and to interpret things within that context.

Even his "Outside Bones" Trident song? That was one of my favorite moments of the whole show so far.
