And I really liked Preboot - I thought it was walking a really nice line between cheerful and ominously threatening. But then Reboot seemed to just be them throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks.

Ah, I missed that one - I don't get to watch much in real time, so if I don't know to go looking for coverage of an episode, then I often don't see it (since it'll be off the main page by the time I'm caught up).
I think he just handed the AT comics series off to someone else, but there are several trade paperbacks worth of his run out there. You're in for a treat!
I was really missing the coverage after those recent episodes, Preboot and Reboot. First Preboot had that chipmunk from the circus making a cameo, but then Reboot was extremely mythology-heavy, but sort of threw away Rattlebones . I was really curious to hear what other people thought.
A Waffle House would be nice, but what I really want is a Quaker Steak and Lube. Their wing sauces are the best.
Yeah, now that you mention it almost all the Adventure Time characters are adults, not kids (Finn being the main exception). PB, Marceline, and Ice King are hundreds of years old, and Jake has what, 6 or 7 kids ?
Especially now that we've got the internet of things, and someone can use your "smart" toaster to DoS twitter!
Oh, ok - in that case, the Ryan North comic books are excellent, but watch the show first. Also, there was a Marceline-focused miniseries, but I think it's included in season 7 as regular episodes, so nothing else to watch that I can think of.
Ooh, this reminded me of my favorite CS Lewis quote (I thought about just doing the last line of this, but really the whole thing is so good):
It's a fascinating show because of its contradictions. It's an optimistic, fun world with an extremely dark undercurrent. The color palate is bright, and a lot of the main characters are literally candy people. But, some of those candy people summon demons in their spare time, or accidentally cause zombie plagues. …
Adventure Time has a wide cast of recurring characters, so a lot of season 1 episodes are important because they're introducing people who'll be important later. Some episodes are pretty forgettable, standalone ones, but not as many as I thought, now that I look at the list. You're probably better off just watching…
Yup! Last I knew, MIT still has a class A, but BBN only has some class Bs now. At one point, though, they had a tenth of all IP addresses.
That actually sounds like a good idea - now I'm sort of sad that it doesn't exist.
They also assumed that all users on the network would be benign. It was just intended to enable better collaboration between research organizations, so no inherent security or safety mechanisms were called for.
Hey, look, it's something (tangentially) about BBN! I never see any mentions of BBN, ever! They're the most interesting company that no one had ever heard of - one of the original contractors on that ARPAnet contract, first packet switched networks, first email, first routers, first ISP, designed the acoustics of…
You know, the reason why he made that statement was because he was responsible for funding some of the major ARPAnet research? He didn't word it right, but I feel sort of bad for him that it became such a big joke - he's just proud that he saw the value in the work before most people did.
I was in the same boat, until I saw the "cat" comment…not sure I'm going to write any stellar code today - doesn't seem to be a day where my brain's totally on board.
Star Wars Game of Life was pretty decent, as I recall.
I did the Goodreads Challenge thing one year, but I found it putting undue stress on something that I really only do for fun. Of course, my reading has dropped off so much in the past year or so that it'd also be sort of depressing now. Looking at my Goodreads stats, the past few years go: 107, 93, 47, 31. Oh well…
Thanks!
