General Grigio turning into a boney completely subverted the whole message of the book, which is that people can come back if they can just learn to care for eachother again. The fact that he makes his character change when he realizes that corpses become humans again makes much more sense and is a great deal more

So the chief complaint is that the movie removed a moment from the book and thus a big thematic underpinning? I think the movie showed how less is more. It hit the same points and message of the book without being nearly as pedantic.
